Martial Arts Styles — About Our Art

About Our Art

Although people generally select a martial arts school for reasons other than which of the martial arts styles is taught at the school (e.g., reputation, location, character-development emphasis, family focus) it’s still good to have a general understanding of the many styles of martial arts before selecting the best school for you.

Our style of martial arts training is called Taekwondo

To learn about Taekwondo in comparison to the other martial arts styles, you should read our free report that provides an overview of all the main styles of martial arts. To access this report, just click on this link:

Martial Arts Style Overview

———————————————–

In reading this report you’ll see that the style differences are primarily in the physical aspects of the art (e.g., more or less emphasis on kicking, punching and throwing).

Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a style specific to Filipino martial arts. Pekiti-Tirsia is strictly a combat-oriented system, as opposed to a sport-focused fighting style. It is a fighting system that focuses on edged, impact, and improvised weapons. PTK has been adopted as the preferred combative training program by elite military and law enforcement units around the world. It claims to be a very lethal fighting method for self-defense.

We obviously believe that Taekwondo is the best of the martial arts styles relative to the physical aspects. But what makes Black Belt Academy special is that our training goes far beyond the kick, the punch, and the throw. We also place a strong emphasis on the personal character development of our students.

While we are experts in teaching Taekwondo techniques, a large focus of our training is on developing the following personal attributes in our students:

  • Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Focus and concentration
  • Self-discipline and mental toughness
  • Social, interpersonal, and anti-bullying skills

The development of these personal attributes is inherent within all martial arts but, at Black Belt Academy, we put a special emphasis on maximizing our student’s potential in all aspects of their life.
